Outnumbered: The movie

(Kind of...)

The writers of Outnumbered are planning to follow in the footsteps of The Inbetweeners, by writing a big-screen script.

Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin say their project isn't a movie version of the hit BBC sitcom, but will feature similar techniques and themes.

Provisionally titled What We Did On Our Holiday, Screen International reports that the film will follow a family of two harassed parents and three children undertaking a chaotic road trip to Scotland for the grandfather’s 75th birthday.

Jenkin told the industry website: 'We’re taking the techniques from Outnumbered to make a distinctive but broadly appealing British comedy that reflects much of contemporary family life, and it should be unlike anything that’s been seen before'

David Thompson, head of producers Origin Pictures, added: 'It'sencouraging there has been such success for British comedies over the last few years, ranging from In The Loop to The Inbetweeners, and we’re confident this film will reach a really wide audience.'

Last year's Outnmbered Christmas special had an audience of more than 7million, while US network Fox has been working on its own version.

The movie is also being backed by BBC Films..There is no word yet on casting.
