Laura Solon signs US deal

Comic to pen sitcom for ABC

Laura Solon has been signed up to write and produce a family sitcom for American TV.

The character comedian, who shot to prominence after winning the 2005 Perrier award, is working on a script about three grown-up siblings dealing with their overbearing mum moving to the city where they are based.

The series is being developed for the ABC network after a bidding war with a rival broadcaster, according to New York magazine.

Solon and producers Alloy Entertainment – who also make Gossip Girl – have been commissioned on a ‘script plus penalty’ deal, which means they get paid even if a pilot isn’t made.

It is the second deal ABC has made for female comedy talent from this side of the Atlantic in a matter of days. Last week, it was announced that Pulling creator Sharon Horgan has signed a contract with ABC to work on a comedy she would write and star in.
