C4 goes for 'Broke'

Broadcaster snaps up US sitcom

Channel 4 has brought the rights to US sitcom 2 Broke Girls, more than a month before it airs on CBS.

It stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs as girls from opposite ends of the social spectrum who wind up as waitresses in the same Brooklyn diner.

The series is written by Michael Patrick King, who has previously worked on Sex and the City, and stand-up Whitney Cummings.

Gill Hay, head of acquisitions for Channel 4, said: ‘It is a rare thrill to find a new comedy that is effortlessly funny, warm-hearted and which has such a broad audience appeal.’

The show airs in the States from next month, although the date of the UK broadcast is not yet known.
