Raw Sex's Simon Brint dies at 61

Musical force behind hit comedies

Simon Brint, half of the Raw Sex comedy musical duo, has died at the age of 61.

He was also a prolific composer and arranger, providing music for a huge list of shows over the past 30 years, including the Comic Strip, A Bit Of Fry And Laurie, Coupling, Absolutely Fabulous, Stella Street, The Harry Enfield Show, The Full Wax and the musical episode of Two Pints Of Lager.

But it was not just comedy shows he worked on, as he wrote the theme tune and incidental music for ten series of London’s Burning and seven series of Monarch Of The Glen – as well as arranging some versions of the Blue Peter theme tune.

However he is probably best known for his work with Rowland Rivron as the dour Ken and Duayne Bishop, aka, Raw Sex, the hapless musical duo formed in the early days of alternative comedy who went on to become the house band for French and Saunders.

In recent years he was also a member of the Idiot Bastard Band alongside Adrian Edmondson, Phill Jupitus and Neil Innes.

Lenny Henry broke the news of Brint’s death on Twitter last week, saying: ‘My good friend Simon Brint passed away. Rest in Peace Simon - we love you very much.’ His agent has confirmed the sad news.
