Reeves sells his art

200 pieces to go under the hammer

Vic Reeves will be selling around 200 pieces of his artwork his weekend.

The comic, who studied art before finding fame as a comedian, says that he wants to clear some space in his Kent home – even though selling the pieces will be like losing old friends.

His work goes on display at the Grand Hotel in Folkestone this afternoon ahead of Saturday’s sale.

Included in the lots are self portraits, Kent scenes, dozens of mixed-media collages, a series of watercolours entitled Boy on a Dolphin 4 pen and ink drawings of Les Dawson and Lennie Benentt

Most the pieces have estimates of £200 to £400 – although there are nine prints with a limited edition of 50 copies each, sold for £50 each.

If the auctioneer’s estimates are correct, Reeves stands to make more than £80,000 from the sale.
