Walliams up for kids' book prize

Mr Stink's whiff of success

David Walliams has been nominated for a leading children's book prize for the second year running.

The comic's second kids’ novel, Mr Stink - about a girl who befriends a smelly tramp - is one of six titles in the running for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize.

Illustrated by Quentin Blake, it has been shortlisted in the category for humourous books aimed at seven to 14-year-olds.

The winner of the £2,500 prize will be announced on November 1.

Comic Shappi Khorsandi was on the judging panel. She said: ‘Judging the shortlist was a ridiculous amount of fun, and not just because of the funny looks I got on trains sitting reading a pile of books which were clearly not aimed at my age group. Reading the very high standard of children's books reminded me how I came to love reading in the first place.’

Walliams’s first children’s book, The Boy In The Dress, was nominated for the award last year, while his third, Billionaire Boy, is published on October 28. Click here to pre-order.
