Comedy Central launches DVD label

With Stewart Lee & Jim Jefferies

The Comedy Central TV channel is launching its own DVD label in the UK.

The first releases will be Stewart Lee’s last stand-up show, If You Prefer A Milder Comedian Please Ask For One, followed by Jim Jefferies’s Alcoholocaust – which will both be out this autumn.

And the company says it plans to sign three more comedians next year.

America’s Comedy Central is already one of the biggest producers of stand-up DVDs, and the new move extends the brand into British shops following the relaunch of the digital TV channel, formerly Paramount Comedy, last year.

The label will be run by Comedy Central’s Sarah Farrell, with the titles produced by Colin Dench, Ross Noble’s former manager who runs the DVD indie Real Talent

If You Prefer A Milder Comedian… had already been recorded at The Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, ready for release on October 11, whileJim Jefferies will tape Alcoholocaust at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, London, on July 26 for release on November 4.

  • As a special offer, Chortle readers can book tickets for the recording without a booking fee. To take advantage, book at nimaxtheatres.com by July 16 using the promotional code Chortle.
