BBC renews trio of comedies

BBC Scotland has given the go-ahead for second series of three of comedy shows featuring up-and-coming Scottish talent.

Six new episodes of Burnistoun, Gary – Tank Commander and Limmy's Show will be made for BBC Two north of the border by Glasgow-based The Comedy Unit.

Comedy Unit creative director Rab Christie added: ‘It's unusual for one series to resonate so quickly with the audience so for all three to be recommissioned is fantastic. The new comedies not only have fans in Scotland but, thanks to the internet.

Burnistoun, written and performed by Robert Florence and Iain Connell, is a sketch show based in a fictional Scottish town; Limmy’s Show features a series of character pieces and sketches from internet sensation Limmy; while Greg McHugh stars as a soldier returning to barracks from the front line in the sitcom Gary – Tank Commander.

BBC commissioning editor Ewan Angus said: ‘I'm delighted we will be screening new series of these shows which gave our audiences the chance to enjoy a new range of comedy performances. The new commissions underline our commitment to develop innovative and distinctive comedy from Scotland.’
