Oscar nod for In The Loop

Best adapted screenplay nomination

The writers of In The Loop – the movie spin-off from political satire The Thick Of It – have been nominated for an Oscar.

They are in the running for best adapted screenplay, against District 9, Nick Horby’s An Education, Nick Hornby, Fantastic Mr Fox, and Precious.

On hearing the news, creator Armando Iannucci Twittered: ‘Bloomin heck. Bonk me purple.’

The full writing team is Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Ian Martin and Tony Roche – as well as Iannucci himself.

The winners will be revealed at the Oscars ceremony, hosted by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, on March 7.

In The Loop's script won best screenplay accolades at last year's New York Film Critics Circle Awards and British Independent Film Awards.
