BBC pilot for Watson & Oliver

Sketch show records next year

Comedy duo Lorna Watson and Ingrid Oliver have landed their own BBC Two pilot.

The pair, who have been friends since school, will shoot a sketch show early next year in front of a live studio audience. It may be broadcast later, although no decision has yet been made.

The as-yet untitled programme will feature a mix of live and pre-recorded sketches and feature a host of up-and-coming and established comedy talent, the BBC said.

Watson & Oliver performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and have appeared in a number of TV comedy series.

Oliver played Rebecca in Channel 4’s Plus One, while Watson was a TV reporter in We Are Klang’s sketch series. Both were regular cast members of BBC Three’s The Wrong Door and have appeared in Peep Show

Mark Freeland, the BBC’s head of comedy said: ‘It’s brilliant that Watson And Oliver have the chance to show how talented and funny they are and I’m proud that they are going to be doing this with us, in-house.’

The pilot will be produced for BBC Productions by Peep Show producer Robert Popper, who also appeared in Look Around You, and made by the team behind BBC Two’s Miranda.
