Comedians go wild

Stand-ups voice new BBC family comedy

A bunch of circuit stand-ups have lent their voices to a new BBC One family show, providing a comedy commentary to natural history footage.

Comics taking part in Walk On The Wild Side features Jason Manford, Isy Suttie, Steve Edge, Jon Richardson, Rhod Gilbert, Sarah Millican and more.

Manford and Phoenix Nights star Edge also co-wrote the series – which is going out in a Saturday teatime slot – with two other writers.

A BBC spokesman said: ‘It's a world of hip hop-loving badgers, dieting pandas and a marmot called Alan. They and a whole bunch of other characters come together in this new show which combines comedy with jaw-dropping natural history footage.’

Guest stars including Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Barbara Windsor, Stephen Fry, Richard E Grant, Rolf Harris and Sir Tom Jones will also voice some of the animals.

It’s hoped the combination of clips and comedy voiceovers will prove as popular for the BBC early-evening audience as Harry Hill has proved for ITV1.

Here are some clips from the show, which starts this weekend:
