Spinal Tap to play Wembley

'One-date world tour'

Spinal Tap are to play one date at Wembley Arena as part of a world tour to mark the 25th anniversary of their cult movie.

Michael McKean Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer will play the 12,500-capacity venue on June 30 in what is billed as a ‘one-night only world tour’.

Speaking in character as David St. Hubbins, McKean said: ‘This show will be dedicated to all of our drummers who have passed on, either to their reward or to middle management at Sainbury's.’

The trio played neighbouring Wembley Stadium two years ago as part of the Live Earth concert highlighting climate change, when they introduced a new son, Warmer Than Hell.

Although this single new date is being billed as the shortest-ever world tour, the band are also performing a 30-date Unwigged And Unplugger tour of the US this spring.

Spinal Tap will be supported at Wembley by The Folksmen, the fictional folk band featured in Guest’s 2003 mockumentary A Mighty Wind.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Thursday.
