Varney's diaries to be published online

New insight into On The Buses

The private diaries of On The Buses star Reg Varney are to be published online.

A fan site has bought three of the actor's journals, covering the years 1970, 1973 and 1979, at a recent auction and intends to publish extracts from next Saturday.

However, the website does not have the permission of Varney's family - and is likely to be breaching copyright by releasing the information.

Webmaster David Fisher insisted: 'I will only be adding content regarding his career, not personal details, so to protect his and his family's privacy.'

But he admitted: 'I have been in contact with his daughter Jeanne, asking if she has any objection and she is yet to reply to me.'

The information will be made public on February 28, to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the first episode of On The Buses. Only fans who register on the onthebuses.co.cc forums will be able to access it.

Varney, who played Stan Butler in the sitcom, died in November at the age of 92.
