Broadmoor gets a comedy gig

Comics have performed a gig inside Broadmoor, to an audience that reportedly included Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe and Stockwell Strangler Kenneth Erskin.

Matt Price and Ray Peacock told gags at the top-security hospital to mark World Mental Health Day on Friday. The hospital said the event was held because ‘doctors feel it is important for rehabilitation and treatment’.

But the show has angered The Sun, which compared Broadmoor to Butlin’s in its Sun Says… leader column.

The paper quoted an unnamed insider saying: ‘It was shocking. People like the Yorkshire Ripper [pictured] and Kenneth Erskine have killed at least 20 people between them. Yet the taxpayer put his hand in his pocket so they could have a good old laugh.

‘When the comics finished, the audience sat down to sirloin steak and chocolate gateau. A lot of pensioners out there would like to have tucked into that.’

Peacock said he didn't believe Sutcliffe was in the audience.
