New projects for Galifianakis

American comic Zach Galifianakis has landed a leading movie role and a key part in a sitcom pilot.

In the comedy movie Hangover, the 38-year-old stand-up plays one of three friends who go on a Las Vegas stag party, but lose the groom just hours before his wedding.

The film will co-star Nip/Tuck actor Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms, who is a regular in the US version of The Office, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

It will be directed by Todd Phillips, whose credits include the remake of School For Scoundrels and the movie revival of the Dukes Of Hazard.

Galifianakis recently starred in the similar What Happens In Vegas as one of Ashton Kutcher’s best friends.

Meanwhile, the quirky stand-up has also landed an HBO pilot, Bored To Death, in which he plays a struggling comic book artist and best friend of the lead character, an alcoholic writer who pretends to be a private detective. Ted Danson also stars as a pompous magazine editor.
