Absolutely team consider comeback

Sketch group to tour?

The team behind cult sketch show Absolutely could reunite for a tour – 15 years after the programme last aired.

When Gordon Kennedy, Jack Docherty, Peter Baikie, Morwenna Banks, Moray Hunter and John Sparkes recently got back together to work on the new DVD release of their influential show, it inspired them to consider new projects.

Docherty said: ‘Our one big regret is that we didn't do any live shows. We were never all available at the same time.

‘We are talking about the possibility of doing something live, either a tour or maybe something on television. But we'll see.’

Channel 4 broadcast the show from 1989 until 1993, but has not repeated it, and only now all four series are being released on DVD – which led to the team working together on commentaries.

Docherty told the Glasgow Daily Record: ‘Watching the shows again and doing the commentary has certainly made me want to work with the other five again.’

Kennedy, who plays Little John in BBC One's Robin Hood, added that Absolutely has stood the test of time.

He added: ‘I was surprised how much it made me laugh after all these years.’

And he said the key to the show’s success was that the team produced the show themselves.

‘The six of us were given the keys to the playground,’ he said. ‘Doing everything ourselves meant it wasn't as diluted as comedy shows now, which have executives and script advisors and marketing people.’

The Absolutely Everything box set of all 28 episodes in the four series is out on May 5. Click here to buy.
