Arrested Development redeveloped

Movie venture on the cards

Plans are under way for a movie version of the much-praised US sitcom Arrested Development.

Star Jason Bateman, who played Michael Bluth in the axed show, has confirmed that a big-screen adaptation is in the pipeline.

Executive producers Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard have called many of the actors in the cult series to ask if they would be willing to shoot a movie.

Bateman told E! News: ‘I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started. Any talk is targeting a post-strike situation, of course.

‘I think, as always, that it's a question of whether the people with the money are willing to give our leader, Mitch Hurwitz, what he deserves for his participation. And I can speak for the cast when I say our fingers are crossed.’

In a separate interview, Jeffrey Tambor, who played the patriarch of the dysfunctional Bluth family, also confirmed that he had been approached – and was keen to take part.

The show was axed by US broadcaster Fox in February 2006, after two-and-a-half years in which its rating struggled to match the critical acclaim.
