The Office goes to Chile

Deal for first Latin America remake

David Brent is to become Chilean – following the first deal to remake The Office in Latin America.

Chilecorto TV’s Canal 13 has bought the rights to remake the show from the BBC, with the new version launching in May.

Creator Ricky Gervais, who has made a fortune from the successful US version of the show, told The Sun: ‘We stopped making The Office in 2003 but the rest of the world didn’t.

‘I won’t be happy until I have seen an Inuit doing David Brent’s dance.’

The original show has been shown 90 countries and has also been remade in France and Germany. The Chilean version will star Luis Gnecco.

BBC Worldwide boss Wayne Garvie said: ‘It’s incredibly exciting that this unique show is now going to be reinvented for Latin American audiences.’
