...but ex-PM 'didn't have a clue’
John Major almost landed an unplanned cameo in The Thick Of It, star Peter Capaldi has revealed.The actor, who plays spin doctor Malcolm Tucker, tried to rope in the former Primer Minister when he spotted him while out filming on location.
He said that he spotted Major crossing the street and started improvising, in the hope of involving him in the scene.
‘I just carried on acting, went up to him – “Hey John” – and started talking, but the camera didn't quite get the right angle and Major didn't have a clue what was going on,’ Capaldi told The Independent.
He added: ‘ Politicians have no clue about popular culture. A friend of mine was at a recording of Question Time a year ago and David Cameron hadn't heard of The Thick Of It – which is a bit crap.’
