Bewitched gets UK remake

Classic Sixties comedy Bewitched is set to be remade for the British market.

In a move contrary to the trend of American networks snapping up the rights to UK comedy hits, Sony has reportedly agreed to allow the show to be adapted for the BBC.

Paul Mendelson, who created My Hero and May To December, has completed a pilot script and is in talks with the corporation about a full series, trade magazine Broadcast reports.

The original series, starring Dick York as man who discovered he was married to a witch, Samantha (played by Elizabeth Montgomery) ran on the ABC network from 1964 to 1972. Here are the classic opening credits:
