Tate to 'kill off' her famous creation

Catherine Tate is to kill off her most famous – and most annoying – character, gobby teenager Lauren Cooper.

The comic has already said that the next series of the Catherine Tate Show will be the last.

But she reportedly wants a ‘spectacular’ end for the lazy schoolgirl, whose ‘Am I bovvered?’ catchphrase has been emulated by apathetic youngsters, to the annoyance of teachers and parents everywhere.

An unnamed show insider told the Daily Mirror: ‘It's going to be Lauren Cooper RIP. Catherine thinks it's time to kill her off, and she'll be going in spectacular style.’

Tate is ending her BBC Two series after three years to concentrate on other projects, including her new role as Doctor Who’s assistant.

George Michael has already filmed scenes for a Christmas special, which will also feature a sketch showing her foul-mouthed gran’s origins in the Fifties.

Tate previously said she has no plans to introduce any new characters to the third and final series, adding: ‘I'm probably going to be sticking with the tried and tested rather than going for any shocks.

‘It'll be the equivalent of a greatest hits album, rather than experimental.’
