Increasing its Standing

Last Comic show to air on UK TV

America’s biggest comedy talent hunt is to be screened on British TV this summer.

Last Comic Standing, in which stand-up hopefuls compete for a $250,000 first prize and an invaluable career boost, will air on Paramount Comedy 1 following a deal with US broadcaster NBC.

Scouts will be coming to London on Monday to audition acts. The open audition is held at the Comedy Store from 9am, and hopefuls will have to perform two minutes of their material.

Further international heats will be held in Canada and Australia, in addition to the usual US auditions.

The show will be hosted by comedian Bill Bellamy, pictured, and the talent scouts include past contestants Alonzo Bodden, Kathleen Madigan and Ant.

A spokesman for the organisers said of Monday’s audition: ‘Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis and early arrival is highly recommended.’
