Vegas seeks God

Johhny to investigate fundamental Christians

Johnny Vegas is to join fundamentalist Christians in America for a new Channel 4 documentary.

Johnny will visit the Deep South’s Bible Belt, spending nine days with preachers and evangelical families.

The 34-year-old comic is himself from a strongly Catholic family, and in his adolescence trained for the priesthood at seminary school – but quit after about 18 months.

The programme is part of the series A Beginner’s Guide To… which looks at religion from an outsider’s point of view, and follows Peaches Geldof’s film about life with a Muslim family.

Channel 4’s commissioning editor for religion, Aaqil Ahmed, said: ‘Hard as this may be to believe, Johnny Vegas has a real connection with Christianity.’

The show will air next year.
