Perrier-winner Laura Solon is to star in a new BBC One sitcom set in a local newspaper office.

A pilot episode of Great News, from the team behind People Like Us, is to be filmed next month.

The sitcom is set in the sleepy newsroom of Wiltshire's fictional Stowebridge Times and revolves around six hapless journalists ‘by turn competitive, ambitious, incompetent and lazy’.

Kevin McNally, who played Gibbs in Pirates Of The Caribbean, and Man Stroke Woman's Daisy Haggard are also in the cast.
