Langham named best comedy actor

Chris Langham has been named best comedy actor at the Monte Carlo TV Awards.

The actor, who is who is facing 15 child pornography charges, won the award for his role as beleaguered Minister Hugh Abbot in Armando Iannucci’s satire The Thick of It.

Also shortlisted for the award was Ricky Gervais, for Extras, as well as  other international talent.

Although he didn’t win, his co-star Ashley Jensen was named best comedy actress for her role as Maggie, meaning Britain scooped both comedy acting awards.

Desperate Housewives won best comedy series, while CSI was named best drama.

Langham, who also won a Bafta in May, was arrested last December, the day after scooping a British Comedy Award.

Last week, the 57-year-old’s case was adjourned by magistrates in Sevenoaks, Kent, until  July 26.

In a statement released at the time of his arrest, Langham said he was ‘anxious to clear my name’.
