ITV Glee

Late-night showcase for stand-up

ITV is to showcase leading circuit stand-ups in a series of eight late-night shows.

The programmes, which have not yet been titled, will be filmed at the Glee Club in Cardiff, starting this week.

Three live shows will be edited into eight half-hour programmes to be transmitted in the Wales region alone. They are currently scheduled for 11pm on Thursdays, starting on July 13.

Glee Club owner Mark Tughan said: ‘We're trying to book plenty of Welsh acts and we're looking for an unpaid open spot for each night too.

‘ITV are saying that if it goes well, there could be more, with the possibility of going national for future runs.’

Tughan also revealed that he could be expanding his Birmingham venue, which now offers music in the week and comedy at weekends.

He said: ‘I’ve just been offered another 6,000 sq ft to expand the Birmingham club again which I'm considering. We feel we've outgrown even the expanded Glee, which we rebuilt in 2002.’
