Frankie's items auctioned for £7,000

A collection of Frankie Howerd’s treasured personal items have fetched  £7,165 at auction.

Among the memorabilia was his brown leather joke bag, which he carried from show to show with his notes in, which was sold for £320.

A portrait of the Up Pompeii! star by royal artist June Mendoza sold for £2,500, as expected.

The items came from his former home in Wavering Down near Axbridge in rural Somerset where his manager and partner Dennis Heymer still livesHowerd died in 1992, at the age of 75.
