Stand-ups Phil Nichol, Kevin Day and Lucy Porter are to star in a new BBC Two news spoof.

Broken News comes from John Morton, who created People Like Us and Radio 4's The Sunday Format, and replicates the experience of channel-surfing through dozens of 24-hour news stations.

Nichol, pictured, is a camp Los Angeles showbiz reporter on celebrity channel So News, while Porter is one of the anchors. Day plays a City reporter on Aronovitz Business News.

The ensemble cast comprises 145 actors, including Tom Goodman Hill, Phil Nice and Sharon Horgan

Morton said: ‘In Broken News, the frenetic world of news isn't about news anymore. It's about predictions, speculations, recap, taking a look at tomorrow's papers or yesterday's papers, possibly even last Thursday's papers.

‘Each episode mirrors how we surf the infinite choice of networks, pressing the button immediately an item loses our interest, desperate for something to hold our interest. It's a show that starts and ends hal-way through a sentence.

The show has been co-written by Tony Roche, who most recently worked on Armando Iannucci’s The Thick Of It and features graphics and set design from the team behind BBC News’s election coverage

The six-part series will air on BBC Two from October 31
