Peter's DVD helps HMV make millions

Peter Kay has been credited with making millions of pounds for HMV shareholders.

His DVD recorded at Bolton's Albert Halls was one of the record store's biggest sellers in the run-up to Christmas.

While most High Street chains had a disappointing December, HMV today announced that sales in the five weeks to January 3 were three per cent up on last year.

DVD sales rose 52 per cent on last year, with chief executive Alan Giles naming Pirates Of The Caribbean, Lord Of The Rings and Peter Kay's disc as particular best-sellers.

Shares in the company leapt 5.6 per cent immediately after the encouraging report.

Kay's disc is still selling well, and is currently number 7 in the official DVD chart.
