Opera nominated for eight Oliviers

Jerry Springer The Opera has been nominated for eight Olivier awards, including best musical.

Former stand-up Stewart Lee, who co-wrote the show, has been shortlisted for best director.

And, for the first time in the history of the presitigious West End awards, the whole chorus has been nominated for best supporting role.

The expletive-ridden opera, which was named best musical in The Evening Standard awards last year is also in line for best actor in a musical (both Michael Brandon and David Bedella), best actress in a musical (Alison Jiear), best choreographer (Jenny Arnold) and best sound design (Mike Walker)
 
The winners will be announced on Sunday February 22.
