Rutles sequel released

Delayed premiere for Idle's spoof

The sequel to Eric Idle's Beatles spoof The Rutles is to receive its world premiere next week.

Can't Buy Me Lunch, has been sitting on the shelf since production finished last year, but is only now getting its first screening, in Los Angeles on August 16.

The spoof documentary, narrated by Idle, features the likes of Salman Rushdie, Tom Hanks and David Bowie talking about how The Rutles influenced their work.

Their interviews are interspersed with out-takes and unused footage from the original 1978 TV film, All You Need is Cash.

Others taking part include Billy Connolly, Steve Martin and Robin Williams, who plays a German fan, plus Neil Innes, Ricky Fataar and John Halsey as the band.

Can't Buy Me Lunch is being screened at the ArcLight Cinema on Sunset Boulevard as part of a new festival of rock and roll films, Don't Knock the Rock.
