It's an honour

Springer welcomes opera spoof

Jerry Springer says it's an honour to be the subject of a new opera spoof.

Kombat Opera's Richard Thomas is producing a work based on the worst excesses of the chat show, as Chortle reported earlier this week.

Now the New York Post has taken up the story.

"I'd go see it," Springer told them. "I guess there have been operas about greater tragedies than this, so what the heck, how could I not be honoured?"

"I think the show has become somewhat a part of the culture. I'm not sure it's a plus, but it's probably true."

A 'work in progress' run of the opera, directed by Stewart Lee, is at the Battersea Arts Centre, south London, from August 21.
