Ricky Tomlinson is hoping to become a singing star.

He's releasing a music CD called Singing, My Arse in which he gives unique renditions of some of his favourite songs.

The Royle Family star has also written a sketch to go around the music, based on a radio phone-in with callers requesting their favourite songs.

Norman Wisdom, Ken Dodd and Jimmy Cricket are among those playing listeners.

The star's agent, Les Bather, told actors' newspaper The Stage: "This CD sounds hilarious in the studio, and Ricky hopes it will chart."

The disc is due out in September.
