Every time I see Nathan his acid wit makes me laugh. However this style of humour is difficult to get right onstage but given more time Nathan will shine. mike o\'donovan, June 2007 |

Saw him last night and he bemoaned a crap review - presumably this one as it's top on Google ‘Nathan Stokes’. Yet still he stole and ruined the Jimmy Carr joke (the Gaddafi one’s not an original either). Watching him is by turns uncomfortable and surreal – it is difficult to imagine a man more ill-suited to stand-up and I remain at a loss to explain why he does of his own free will something so humiliatingly badly. Improbably, when he strays from his ‘prepared’ material matters deteriorate further. It’s doubtful many from last night’s show would pay to see him compere again after some audience interaction which was genuinely insulting: the “poison” referred to in the review is right. There is so much wrong with his act that it is difficult to pick out one area for improvement, but particularly welcome would be an appreciation that there is a difference between (a) satirical political incorrectness and (b) talking like Oswald Moseley before adding “I’m only JOKING!” he line-ups at his Thursday nights in Ealing are usually quite good so perhaps he should stick to organising; that’s the nicest thing I can think to say.
