Miss London at the 2009 Funny Women final
Live Review

Miss London at the 2009 Funny Women final
Claudia Wass

‘Single ladies MAKE SOME NOISE!’ As feisty as they come, high-impact Miss London – the alter-ego of 20-year-old Dionne Hughes – bursts on to the stage with attitude so in-your-face you can’t ignore it.

Her aggressive stance is such that she sneers at ugly boys who dare to talk to her on the dance floor and orders us to clap at routines she insists are worthy.

Slipping in phrases from both African and Caribbean cultures, she demands that we enjoy her through sheer force of personality alone.

Closer analysis might reveal a lack of substance beneath all this front, but for a short set she injects such energy into the room that it’s hard to resist.

I saw her perform and she is a funny and down to earth girl, that is naturally funny which I admire.. Keep it up miss london we listening....

Very poor line up for the Funny Women final. I don't think this competition does anything to promote truly talented female comedians. I have been to the last three finals and it is clear that what they are interested in is faces for the telly. Miss London is a perfect example of this- all style over content. Weak material but delivered in an 'in your face' style which is perfect for the some of the dross churned out on Ch4 and some of the satelite channels and aimed at the 'youth market'. Yes, Miss London will do well but is she funny? I don't think so.

I saw Miss London at the Funny Women Finals this week and she was brilliant, for a comedienne that's only been around for 9 months, she sure proved that she's destined for a comedy career! Go Miss London... GO!

Saw her at the Funny Women final, absolutely fantastic performer and one to watch out for, she is going to develop into a very strong performer. Go and see this girl! A future star for sure...
