Mackenzie Taylor Mackenzie Taylor

Mackenzie Taylor radiates niceness. Though he has the bedraggled appearance of a drummer in a Magic Numbers tribute band, his warmth and charm stands him in excellent stead when it comes to building a rapport with his audience.

This easy amiability gets him through what is largely forgettable stand-up material, which is thin on belly laughs, but elegantly told. Perhaps it’s his acting training that gives him such a pleasing delivery, but he has an authentic persona that some thespians struggle to achieve.

Proof of his geniality comes in a silly ‘magic’ trick, which is little more than childish idiocy. But by enacting it with faux seriousness and underplayed showmanship, skilfully makes it seem more like the stupid gag it is.

The whole set is something of a triumph of likeability over content, but he is such a nice presence that you wouldn’t begrudge him that.
