Helen Keen

Won the Channel 4 new comedy writing initiative in 2005; and was a finalist in Funny Women (2005) and Hackney Empire New Act Of The Year (2006)

Original Review:

Frightfully frightfully well-spoken newcomer Helen Keen aims for a darkly surreal set, including an odd routine about clowns and serial killers as well as bizarre ponderings about Queen Elizabeth I.

She has a wandering style, with overly wordy set-ups she seems to lack confidence in, so the audience need to show a little patience as she talks around her esoteric topics.

uckily her punchlines are funny and distinctive, and she can deliver a sharp one-liner when needed, so that patience is rewarded. If only she could lose some of that unnecessary padding… Date of review: Feb 2007
