Eric Sykes is the master. I worked with him at the beeb in the 70s as a camerman on Sykes. What a professional.Wonderful soft and funny scripts. Nice guy. The Plank is a classic here in Sweden. Everyone loves it. We love you Eric

Congratulations to Eric Sykes on his CBE - and the truth he tells about television management. More power to him.
Brian Kavanagh, December 2004
What excellent news that Mr Sykes has been awarded a CBE. My congratulations to him, and my thanks for the enormous pleasure he has given me and so many others over the years. Let us hope that in the future humour may return to the civilised delights of which he was such an inventive creator, and that what currently passes for humour is consigned to the dustbin of history. You're a lovely man Mr Sykes.
Michael Lewis, December 2004
Having read his comments concerning today's entertainment , Eric Sykes should have been given a knighthood. I am a mother of a young impressionable child, and I agree that comedy these days is very much 'in your face' and aggressive. Alot of television is. If only others had his stance of no swearing and nothing suggestive. What a tragedy that genius is not recognised now, and decency not upheld.
Tracey Winn, December 2004
My ex-husband worked alongside Eric Sykes and Jimmy Edwards here in the UK and in America in a comic play called Big Bad Mouse, which every time I saw it I appreciated more and more the perfect comedy timing and all round genius that was Eric Sykes. I can't think, off hand, of any present day comedian that commands your whole attention at all times no matter what sort of scene he is playing. To add to the very fond and funny memories I have of Mr Sykes we discovered that we had bought one of his cars that he used to own a few years ago. How about that for co-incidence?

Eric is a man of expression, and a man without a mask. Eric is not an actor, he has always been himself. His real gift is being Eric and sharing it with those who understand the real value of comedy in life.
Foreign Blue, September 2004
Simply one of the funniest humans ever to draw breath and a true gentleman to boot. The oft-overlooked sitcom Sykes remains one of the best examples of the art to this day.
Stuart Crosse, August 2004
Dear Eric Sykes always comes across to me as a gentle, kind and lovable man. His wit belongs to the old school of masters and, with The Plank there for posterity, Eric's warm brand of humour is surely guaranteed a long shelf-life.
