Biography

Alan's father, a City accountant, brought up Alan, his younger sister and older brother, mostly on his own in a detached house in Loughton, Essex, following the death of his mother. He was frequently in trouble at Bancroft's school in Woodford Green.

Five months after he left college, he was earning his living on the comedy circuit, and secured his first TV slot within six months.

Saw Mr Davies last night at Westcliff, probably the best stand-up for collective belly laughs myself and the wife have seen and we are comedy addicts. The 'firework parking' impromptu stuff was excellent, the whole show was terrific and the parenting stories were fantastic. Top marks

Tom &The WIFE, November 2012

Great to have him back doing stand-up again. much missed. Superb!

Jez Feeney, January 2012

A Happy Shopper Peter Cook, always has been IMHO.

Mandy Allan, January 2010

Although quite slow, his stand-up is very funny. Keep it up Alan

Alex, October 2008

Personally I love Alan. He makes me laugh so hard that I inevitably end up crying. Him and Stephen make a great double act, and the "awww...not again" feeling you get when he trips yet another bell on QI means he's doing his job very well. I wish I'd seen him live, unfortunately, not in the right country for that :-(

Shami, January 2008

Well, I'm rather partial to the charming weirdness of Alan Davies. He's one of the few comedians who makes me laugh my socks off, alongside Connolly.

Sara SJ, October 2006

I watched Alan recently on QI, and think his quick wit and humour is great. He is the only reason I watch QI, his responses to Stephen Fry work fantastically

Debbie, April 2006

As is always the case... TV work or relative success comes the backlash from the comedy fans.. the accusations of selling out from the comedy 'alternatives'. Success always inspires jealousy. Alan is clearly a very clever and talented man, which is how he made his way onto TV in the first place, and I was fortunate enough to see him at a TV recording recently at which he was engaging and funny throughout.

Charles Thomson, March 2006
