Sean Grant – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

Sean Grant, 2007’s Scottish Comedian Of The Year, has distinctive material, delivered in a very dry deadpan. But that approach also makes him distant, and needlessly slows the pace of the set.

It shows an act afraid to engage with the audience, so he doesn’t try, instead seeking sanctuary in the strength of material – that’s where he finds his confidence, rather than in any interaction.

But he’s right to put store in the writing, which shows a lot of flair – even when talking about such generic subjects as teenage mums. He also exploits some unedifyingly selfish behaviour for some very well put-together routines.
