Andy Brough – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

Andy Brough is a hard-to-like open spot whose mind is so jumbled, it’s near-impossible to follow his train of thought or discern any obvious jokes. Indeed the biggest, and almost only, laugh he gets is when he repeats the slogan popular of the back of bikers’ T-shirts: ‘If you can read this, my girlfriend has fallen off’.’ It may be second-hand, but it’s the closest thing to a gag he’s got.

For the rest of the time, he simply spouts on about things he’s noticed that worry him, with little grasp of how to make them funny or succinct. It’s almost impossible to imagine that he’s been on the circuit for more than seven years, but he was apparently one of the many So You Think You’re semi-finalists in 1999.

He babbles his delivery and avoids eye contact with the audience – as well he might, given how embarrassingly weak he material is – which only reinforces the impression this is a confused man who finds it easy to talk but difficult to communicate. Hardly the ideal credentials for a stand-up.
