Mark Nelson – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

Though relatively inexperienced, 2006 Scottish Comedian of the Year Mark Nelson has the energy to invigorate a sluggish room and knows enough to started with a proper joke, proving his credentials from the get-go.

A few simple, blunt, but perfectly aimed barbs at a couple of celebs keeps the ball rolling, disguising the nastiness of the sentiment with a well-spoken delivery.

He wobbles slightly with some more generic observations about shopping at Ikea, and a routine contrasting the lives of hip-hop stars with those of their fans, but the material is always smartly written.

Similarly, his strong closing routine about ugly friends is so well put-together it belies his lack of stage time and promises a healthy future.
