Tom Rhodes – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

Diverting reasonably entertaining and well-versed in audience banter, Rhodes is, however, simply not distinctive enough to stand out in a crowd.

His cynical stance and cool manner proves instantly gratifying - but immediately forgotten.

The truth is the jokes don't have the insight or the killer punchlines to make the material. stand apart.

His professional veneer mean he communicates with the audience, but doesn't connect with them. Although it must be said that the night Chortle saw this Amsterdam-based American (in a Paris venue), punters were noticably hin on the ground - which certainly seemed to faze him. He clearly wanted something rowdier.

But from this example, this is a set that is not without laughs, though it is without substance.
