Janey Godley – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

A spirited raconteur, Godley's stock in trade is the personal anecdote, engagingly told and dripping with the sort of bitchy, selfish cynicism that would make Jenny Eclair proud.

Hers is an off-the-cuff, conversational style that makes it hard to identify where the actual gags are, and risks the danger of appearing to lack substance.

But this Glaswegian's oxymoronic mixture of misanthropism and on-stage likeability overcomes any such potential pitfalls, stringing the audience along and making hers a breezily enjoyable set.
