Lily Savage is back (briefly)

...and all because 'the BBC are tight arses'

comedyPaul O’Grady has revived Lily Savage – to save musician Miles Kane a few quid.

The Last Shadow Puppets frontman wanted to sample a few lines from O’Grady’s former drag character on his solo track Don’t Let It Get You Down.

But the recording he wanted was owned by the BBC – who wanted a crippling fee to license it.

‘The rights fee from the BBC would have been mental,’ Kane told the Daily Star. ‘We contacted Paul, who turned out to be a fan of mine, and he told me, "The BBC are tight arses, I’ll do it for you".

‘Paul phoned me to say the lines, with his Jack Russell running down his leg.’

Kane added: 'Kane added that he’d love to get "Paul to compere my show one night – he’s welcome to introduce me at any gig. He’s a diamond.'

The track features on Kane’s new LP Change The Show, his first  solo album release since 2018’s Coup De Grace, and stars with Lily saying: 'I can’t bloody well understand it, if you want my honest opinion. It’s got everything: clear diction, beautifully spoken. You know, it’s topical, you know. It’s up to date...'

And a picture of Lily features in the video as acknowledgement of the contribution…
