Jimmy Carr: I DID sing on Ed Sheeran track

Comedian provided backing vocals on Visiting Hours

comedy Jimmy Carr has confirmed that he provided backing vocals to Ed Sheeran's hit Visiting Hours.

The musician mentioned the unlikely collaboration a couple of months ago, but Carr has never corroborated the story, until now.

Speaking on tonight’s edition of The Russell Howard Hour, Carr explained that it came about because he is close pals with former Snow Patrol pianist Johnny McDaid, who co-wrote the song with Sheeran.

‘He played me the song about eight months ago. I was in a puddle, like, "Ah man, that’s so beautiful",’ Carr said. And he went, "Oh, you have to do backing vocals for it’" I said, "I don’t think that’s a good idea" but he said he could make it work.’

Carr is in good company on the song, as Kylie Minogue and Jimmy Barnes also provide backing vocals.

The track, released in August, mourned the death of Sheeran’s friend, the record label boss Michael Gudinski.

Carr told Howard: ‘I find music is a real way to connect with grief. I like what music does. It reminds you of the people you love.’
