Ashley Blaker shares a bad gig story... with a positive ending

comedyHere's a story to give succour to any comedian facing an appalling corporate-style gig they should never have been booked for.

Stand-up and TV producer Ashley Blaker has told of being at a family party almost 20 years ago thrown in a North London restaurant.

They booked a comic, but in reality had not interest in what he had to say, heckling and talking over him.

To add to the humiliation, he said his wife's uncle tried to weasel out of paying the act, saying he wasn't funny.

'He had no mic, no stage, the audience weren’t expecting comedy and were all behaving very disrespectfully,' Blaker wrote on Twitter. 'However he [the uncle], was having none of it. He said the comedian was just awful and he should get his money back.'

But – as thus series of tweets reveals – the story does have a happy ending.
