Radio 1Xtra’s Comedy Gala is to return to iPlayer and BBC Sounds  next year, it has been announced today

Eddie Kadi – who hosts the station’s Afrobeats chart – will be compering the gig at the Hackney Empire on February 5, as he did when it was first held two years ago.

The line-up for the next event  comprises Andrew Mensah, Annette Fagon, Emmanuel Sonubi, Junior Booker, Kyrah Gray, Leroy Brito and Travis Jay with live music from Rampage Sound.

Kadi – fresh from his appearance on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity – said: ‘Hosting the last 1Xtra Comedy Gala was an absolute honour. 

‘I’ve always envisioned creating an event that truly celebrates the phenomenal black British talent we have in the UK, and it surpassed all expectations. I’m so excited that we get to do it all again with a brand new line-up, back at the iconic Hackney Empire.’

And Dari Samuels, head of BBC Radio 1Xtra, added: ‘This is sure to be an unforgettable night of non-stop laughter, showcasing some hilarious established names alongside exciting rising stars from the black comedy scene.’

Tickets to the 18+ event start from £15, and will be on sale from 10am on Friday  from the Hackney Empire website.
