...at a ceremony he's hosting!

Mo Gilligan has been nominated for best newcomer at the Edinburgh TV awards – which he just happens to be hosting.

The comedian faces competition from Informer star Nabhaan Rizwan; Tamara Lawrance from The Long Song; Saoirse-Monica Jackson from Derry Girls;  Ncuti Gatwa from Netflix’s Sex Education and  Lola Petticrew from  Come Home.

Meanwhile, The Big Narstie Show, which Gilligan co-hosts on Channel 4, is up for best entertainment show alongside Gogglebox, The Last Leg, Hunted, The Greatest Dancer and Britain’s Got Talent.

Shortlisted for best comedy series are Fleabag, Famalam, Derry Girls, Catastrophe, Stath Lets Flats and After Life

Gilligan said: ’I’m proud to host the Edinburgh TV Awards this year and excited to help celebrate the industry’s exceptional talent.’

As previously announced, Hugh Laurie will receive the Edinburgh TV Festival’s outstanding achievement award at the same ceremony.

Festival director, Lisa Campbell, said: ‘The competition is tougher than ever in the programme categories with some of the biggest, beautifully-crafted, talked-about shows of the year battling it out.’
