Mrs. Doubtfire named Britain’s favourite comedy movie

And Robin Williams our favourite comedy actor

Mrs. Doubtfire has been named Britain’s favourite comedy movie of all time, with star Robin Williams our most-loved comedy actor.

Jennifer Saunders topped the poll for actress – with long-term comedy partner Dawn French nowhere to be seen.

Mrs. Doubtfire took 17 per cent of the vote, beating out competition from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (14 per cent) and disaster film parody Airplane! (13 per cent), according to the nationwide survey carried out by Showcase Cinemas.

The news comes as a stage musical version of the film heads to London's West End in May.  In the acting category, Williams outranked Rowan Atkinson and John Cleese, while Saunders beat Whoopi Goldberg  into second place and Jennifer Aniston third spot.

The ‘Don’t call me Shirley’ exchange from Airplane! was named the funniest scene.

Showcacase's survey also revealed a generation divide, with 18-24-year olds electing Edgar Wright’s Hot Fuzz as their No1.
